Generator Set Muffler Installation Guide: Common Mistakes to Avoid for Stable Noise Reduction

A generator set muffler directly decides the noise level of the whole power unit. Even if you buy a high-performance silencer, wrong installation will greatly weaken the silencing effect and even bring hidden dangers to the generator engine. Many overseas installers and distributors often ignore small details during installation, resulting in customer complaints after delivery.

The first common mistake is unreasonable pipeline layout. Too many right-angle elbows and too long exhaust pipelines will increase exhaust backpressure obviously. It will cause insufficient engine power, high exhaust temperature and frequent alarm. We suggest reducing unnecessary elbows and keeping the exhaust pipeline smooth. Flexible bellows are recommended to connect the engine outlet and muffler to absorb vibration and prevent weld cracking.

Second, insufficient heat insulation protection. The surface temperature of generator exhaust mufflers can reach hundreds of degrees Celsius. If the muffler is too close to cables, fuel pipes and flammable parts, fire risk will increase. For silent box type generators, reserved heat dissipation space and heat insulation cotton matching are necessary.

Third, neglect of sealing treatment. Air leakage at the flange connection will make noise leak out and reduce silencing efficiency. High temperature resistant gaskets should be used for sealing, and the bolts need to be tightened evenly. Regular inspection of gasket aging condition is required in later maintenance.
